Kozhikode railway station redevelopment is moving slowly, with recent reports saying the project is still well behind schedule and completion may now slip beyond the original target. One report said only 18% of the work was done by mid-January 2026, while another later report said progress had reached about 21% even though the contract period was nearing its end.
The project is a ₹445.95 crore redevelopment aimed at upgrading the station to international standards.
Reports say the work began in 2023–2024, but manpower shortages and weak monitoring have slowed progress significantly.Passenger inconvenience has grown because of partial demolition, traffic congestion, and limited parking around the station.
The Malabar Train Action Committee and CPI have both pressed the Railways to speed up the work, saying the pace is too slow for a project of this scale.
The project was originally expected to finish by December 2026, but one report said the target had been pushed to mid-2027.Another report said the current contract runs until June 2027 and that an extra year may be needed if the present pace continues.
