Sree Pisharikavu Temple
Sree Pisharikavu Temple, also called Kollam Pisharikavu, is a famous Bhadrakali temple in Koyilandy, Kozhikode district, about 30 km from Kozhikode city. It is known for its strong devotional importance, traditional Kerala temple architecture, and the worship of Goddess Bhadrakali along with Lord Shiva in the temple complex.
The main deity is Goddess Bhadrakali, and the temple is closely connected with local merchant-community traditions and the annual Kaliyattam festival. A special symbol of the temple is the sacred sword Nandhakam, which is believed to represent the goddess and plays an important role in festival rituals.
One tradition says the temple was originally linked to the migration of a merchant community from Kollam, which is why it is called Kollam Pisharikavu. Another popular legend says the goddess appeared in a devotee’s dream and gave the Nandhakam sword, after which the temple was established and worship continued in that form.
