Tali Maha Shiva Kshetram in Kozhikode is an ancient Shiva temple in the heart of the city, widely regarded as one of the oldest and most important temples in Kerala. It is generally described as having been built in the 14th century under the patronage of the Zamorin rulers of Calicut, and it remains a major spiritual and cultural landmark. The temple is associated with the Zamorin dynasty and has long been a prominent center of worship in Kozhikode. Sources also note that it was reconstructed after damage during historical conflicts, which is part of why it is seen as a surviving symbol of the city’s heritage. The main deity is Lord Shiva, and the temple complex also includes shrines for other deities such as Ganapathi, Bhagavathi, Krishna, and Narasimha in some descriptions. Its Kerala-style architecture, wooden detailing, and traditional temple layout are often highlighted by visitors.Tali Maha Shiva Kshetram is especially known for the annual Revathi Pattathanam, a seven-day scholarly and cultural event held around October or November. The temple also hosts other important annual rituals and daily poojas that draw devotees throughout the year.
