Kozhikode coconut farmers are getting support from the state’s raw coconut procurement drive, which was launched in the district to help farmers affected by falling prices. The drive in Kozhikode began with VFPCK and NAFED coordination, and registered farmers were allowed to deliver coconuts on scheduled days at collection centres.
The procurement programme gives farmers a more assured market and reduces dependence on middlemen. Payments are also sent directly to farmers’ bank accounts, which improves cash flow and makes the process more transparent.Kozhikode was one of the districts included in Kerala’s raw coconut procurement effort, with additional collection centres planned to expand access in rural areas. Reports say the drive especially helps during the monsoon, when processing coconuts becomes difficult because of dryer shortages.
